Here’s a fun behind-the-scenes in the adventures of running a website that you sometimes trick people into thinking is a real thing (but it actually isn’t).
Durring NYCC I was hoping to get some time with Jackson & Doc to ask reader-submitted questions. However I could only get a vague promise from Jackson mostly because he and Doc are always absurdly busy during conventions, and the few spare moments they often have are filled with them trying to get in a quick smoke or coffee or something.
So anyway I didn’t get to interview them at the convention, but since I’m staying in New York a little past the convention (visiting family) I asked Jackson if I could have a second chance and he said they woud already be in the city on Monday to check out some new office space, and that we could probably do it then.
What followed was what can be best described as a hilariously amateur video interview. You can only barely hear me asking questions because I forgot to turn on the mic’s multi-direction mode (you can hear the guys fine though, which is obviously the most important thing). The video for the middle fifteen minutes are really, really choppy (not totally sure what I’m going to do about that yet, but the audio is fine at least). I also only brought a desk-sized tripod (originally I thought we would do it in a coffee shop) so the video is kind of crooked and shaky. Still, for my first in-person interview I think it went pretty well. Plenty of lessons learned for the next time, as always.
I also got to briefly hang out with them while we got coffee and figured out where to do the interview (we ended up outside Madison Square Park, which I think was a pretty nice setting). As a fan of the show, and those guys in general, that part was a lot of fun because it mostly consisted of them talking in Sgt. Hatred’s voice about things they saw in shop windows.
After the questions were depleted I thanked them and gave them both Dr. Strange action figured that I had purchased at NYCC a few days ago. Doc was especially happy with this and even gave me a hug. After a quick chat we parted ways, forever changed. Well, that last part probably isn’t true for them, but I certainly had a lot of fun. Also super thanks to Jackson and Doc for not only being incredibly awesome and paying attention to my little site but also for not making fun of me (too much) for not knowing what the hell I was doing.
I don’t know when I’ll post the interview since I need to do a ton of editing, but I’ll of course post about it when I do.
